Roof to Table Garden, New York, NY
An orchard in the sky, this rooftop garden was transformed from an underutilized space to an edible oasis. Several gathering alcoves were created. A peaceful bench area and entry lawn can be found on the eastern side of the terrace, away from the noisy city street and surrounded by a fragrant flowering hedge. A round dining table was also added near the vine covered pergola, facilitating the use of that space to dine. Complementing a new outdoor barbecue and kitchenette, an edible garden bursting with herbs and vegetables was incorporated along a sunny corridor. Together, the different spaces create one cohesive landscape, and when it’s time to relax, a full outdoor living room facing a tiered wall of planters becomes the perfect destination.
This rooftop garden has not only become a formula for space, but for culinary pursuits. As one peruses this edible eden, they can find blueberries, peaches, fig, apples, plums, kiwi berry, raspberry, a vast assortment of herbs, and even a cold-hardy pomegranate tree. This project has become a platform to experiment with new recipes and serve delicious seasonally-inspired meals to guests. A real splendor to those who cook, or simply love to eat, this project has become its own little paradise high up in the Tribeca skyline.
