Vicky Colombet in the Musée Marmottan Monet
We are incredibly excited to announce that artist Vicky Colombet has her painting (Water and Light #1355), in the permanent collection of the Musée Marmottan Monet. She is the first contemporary artist to be part of this prestigious French museum collection.
Conceived in homage to Claude Monet, this work by Vicky Colombet, Water and Light, evokes two of the great themes explored by the leading impressionist. Here, description of the landscape disappears in favor of the flow of water and its highlights and reflections. Pure pigment is mixed with solvent and organically applied to the canvas. The effect is fractals and formations. The pattern that is created echoes the vibrant forces of nature through the subtle handling of the colored surface. Although abstract, this work takes its inspiration from the spectacle of the world. Its pared-back simple esthetic reflects an idea of the universe close to that of Eastern philosophy.
In the winter of 2019, Vicky Colombet will have a solo show at the Musée Marmottan Monet, as part of the series “In dialogue with Claude Monet”. She is now working on a series about water and light.
